All day “date” with Kage

On Friday Kage and I were able to spend the day together. Jay stayed the night at my moms house with his cousin who is two days younger than him. This is always a fun and relaxing time for Kage & I. He knows he gets a little spoiled because Jay is out doing something fun and I want to know it’s okay to have fun without Jay aka his best friend. I want him to be able to hold onto these memories of our little “all day dates” with just him & I.

We ventured out to CVS and picked up some crayons, a coloring book, paint and a clay set! We had a blast doing all the fun activities all day long and I found out Kage has a very cute, artistic side to him when it came to the clay.

He was also over the moon about his color explosion spongebob coloring pages. That boy loves spongebob! Do your little ones obsess over spongebob, team umizoomi and Dora the explorer like mine do?

For dinner we ordered some yummy food from domino’s and plopped ourselves down on the living room floor and had ourselves a little “picnic” right there inside! I love surprising them by doing random, fun things!
Especially, getting to eat lots of different candy! ;)

Have you spent a day with just you and one of your little ones? If so, what did y’all do?

Things to do when it’s sunny!

The past two days we have had nothing but storms, and we are expecting more today. *sigh* Well, all this sitting inside is making me think about all the things I want to do when the sun is shining. So I made a list (I love lists, it’s kind of ridiculous) of the things I want to do when the weather is great, heck I’ll even take when the weather is just good.
1. Walk with the boys twice a day.
2. Let the boys play in their little pool while I lay out and tan.
3. Take the kids to the park. It’s been awhile sense we got a swing set in our back yard along with other fun stuff for the kids, and while they love being out there, I think it would be good for them to go to a park and play with other little kids.
Isn’t that a cute park? I don’t know where that’s at but it’s very cute.
4. Plant flowers in the backyard by our porch.
5. Take the kids to the zoo.
6. Mainly, as you can tell, just spend lots and lots of time outside.
Any other great ideas for little ones outside? I’m all for hearing ideas. :) What about you, what are you planning to do while the sun is shining?

Coffee Date

Well hello Friday. It’s good to see you. You bring errand running, lots of play time, the weekend and of course my favorite blog day of the week – our weekly coffee date! Alissa @ Rags to Stitches hosts a weekly coffee date in the form or a blog post or a vlog, why don’t you join us?
If we were meeting for coffee I would tell you that I am hoping to get to the doctor today for my dang kidney stones! They are hurting like a mother effer and I hate it! I would ask if you have ever had a kidney stone and if you had I would sympathize with you, if not I would pray that you will never get one.
If we were meeting for coffee today I would tell you that this summer is going by so fast and it is really, really hot in Texas. So hot that we are spending time in doors playing, watching movies and coloring because it is way too hot and humid to be outside unless you are in a pool.

If we were meeting for coffee I would tell you I was SO excited when I saw Tricia was selling this book – I snagged that up as fast as I could and my boys love it! They really love when I read to them so we are always looking for new books! I would show you my new laptop and tell you how excited I am that I have a working laptop that isn’t slow as shiz and has all of it’s keys!

If we were meeting for coffee I would tell you I am reviewing a book on the blog on Sunday. I would tell you about the one I am currently reading and how I am loving it! I would tell you I also have another book I am reviewing.. yikes, I better get to reading! ;) I would ask if there is any books you would recommend for my never ending reading list.

If we were meeting for coffee I would tell you that I love ice cream and I love surprising the boys with ice cream at random times. It lights up their faces and it melts my heart!

If we were meeting for coffee this week, what would you tell me?

I am also accepting sponsors for July and I would love to have you on my blog! Check out my sponsor page here!

I’m Becky and I blog over at Tales of Beauty for Ashes. To read the meaning behind my blog name, go here. WARNING: That is a pretty vulnerable post SO if you want to get broken in easy, read below first!

Some things you should know about me, if we are going to become good friends.

  • Sometimes, I stop by the side of the road to pick up discarded junk.
  • I am a major ragamuffin (meaning I am nothing without grace)
  • I had a precious little girl last July 4th, I am pregnant again (and a little nervous about it).
  • I like running, but I haven’t been a runner for about two years, due to my seeming constant pregnancy.

  • Along with the above fact, I tried the cookies made with chickpeas, DON’T DO IT!!
  • I have a bucket list of things to do before I die. I made it ten years ago, and I have a LOT to check off still.

  • One of the biggest lessons: marriage is hard.
  • I like to save money. It kinda gives me a rush in life.

Mini School – Chalk Letters

I saw this fun idea on Pinterest about a different type of way to teach your little ones how to write their letters and I knew I had to do this with Jay! He was so excited and did such a good Job! I was really proud of him and he did not want to stop tracing or “erasing” the letters until he was all the way to z!

He had this super cute look of concentration on his face and smiled every time he finished a letter. I was the perfect cheerleader and told him good Job the whole way! We will definitely be doing this with letters again and next time numbers too!
What do you think? Would you do this with your little one?

A little coffee date

Wow. This week has just kind of flown on by hasn’t it? It can’t possibly already be Friday. We were sick most of last weekend + this week but, as soon as we started feeling better – we ventured outside. This summer has been a good one so far and if we were meeting for coffee I would tell you about it.

I would tell you how I am really loving the white flowers that are blooming on a tree in my neighbors backyard. I would tell you this tree’s branches comes over the fence into our yard and I don’t mind one bit.

I would tell you the boys have been having so much fun playing outside & in the water sprinkler. We have been filling our bellies with watermelon. We have been watching helicopters fly by and more often than not watching the sun kiss the sky goodnight. We have been staying up later and sleeping our mornings away.

I have been reading outside + working on my book. I feel like this summer is going too fast and I know apart of that is because I know when summer ends – Jay will be starting kindergarten and that sends my heart + mind into a world of chaos. I’m just not ready for him to start school yet. I’m not ready for him to be away from me for 8 hours a day 5 days a week.

I’m not ready for my first born to enter this scary world without me right there by his side. I’m not ready for him to see the pain that can come with school. I’m not ready to watch him walk to his classroom & me turn around and walk away. I may have until the end of August before this happens but, it’s coming too fast and I just don’t know how to prepare for it.
This is Jay’s last summer before he starts school and you better believe we are enjoying it.
If we were meeting for coffee I would apologize for getting teary eyed and I’d stop rambling about my momma heart. I would ask you how you are and how life is for you? How is your summer going?

I’m linking up with Alissa for coffee.

Bullying can cause a world full of hurt

Live.Laugh.L0ve. // Bullying can cause a world full of hurt

If there is one thing I am terrified of when it comes to Jay starting kindergarten this year. It’s bully’s. I know bullying has gotten so much worse since I was in school and it scares the living hell out of me that he might encounter it.
I remember in high school there was two girls who set out to make my life hell and it worked. I never talked about it and I dealt with it. I had a lot of friends so, even those these girls turned a few of my “friends” against me – I tried not to let it bother me. I remember logging onto AIM {remember that?} and if these girls were on you better believe they ran there mouth to me and tried to bring me down as far as they could. It scared me for life when it came to friends because, once upon a time these girls were my “friends”. They impacted my life more than they ever thought they did.
I’ve seen bullying happening right here in blogging and it disgusts me.
I had the chance to interview my mom – who was bullied very bad in school. I asked for y’alls help with answers on Twitter & Facebook and here is her answer to those questions…
————————
1. Where do you stand regarding forgiving the person/people who bullied you?
I would have to say that I have not forgiven any of the people who bullied me in school, since it was so many of them and it happened on a daily basis from the time I was half through middle school until I was out of of high school. Never a day went by that something wasn’t said to me or done to me.
2. What did you do about the bullying? (Tell anyone, kept it a secret, etc)
I of course told my parents and my siblings, a couple of my teachers, and a friend or two that I had, they all knew. I would come home crying at times, and I hated going to school.
3. How has it affected you as a person?
I carry it with me to this very day and I am 47. I do have some trust issue’s, some self confidence issue’s as a result of that not once have I ever looked in the mirror and thought I was pretty, and the thing is I was skinny in high school, kept up with the style etc. I prayed that my girls were pretty so that they never had to deal with what I did and they are, and they had all kinds of friends in school.
4. Can you describe how you felt during the bullying?
I wanted to run and hide when people would make fun of me, and it made it very difficult for me to come to school. I was afraid that is for sure. I never really made eye contact when I would walk in school to try and avoid anyone from saying anything to me. I prayed all the time that it would stop.
5. How do you feel around people now that you have been bullied?
I am Ok around people now that I am an adult. I certainly don’t get made fun of to my face, now people know that I have no problem speaking my mind at all.
6. Is there anything you wish you would have done different when the bullying was going on?
Yes, I wish I would have had the courage to speak up to those people, hold my head high and show them that it had no effect on me at all. Laugh at them when they were making fun of me, etc
What I want people, parents to realize is just how bad this affects a child. I was called names constantly every day I walked in that school, I was known as , Ms. Piggy, Pig nose etc. I remember one time I got off the school bus at the corner of my street, a girl got off with half the bus of course and proceeding to hit me, I turned to walk away and a boy wearing cowboy boots pointed ones kicked me right in my back. There was another girl who had her friends with her all the time and would shove my books out of my hands and all her friends would laugh at me, one day however she did it and something snapped and even though I was terrified on the inside I pushed her so hard she ate those lockers behind her, but she never bothered me again after that. But it didn’t stop the continuing name calling, pulling hair, etc that I went through and I do mean on a daily basis.
I only went to one dance in high school a homecoming dance, I never got to go to the prom, I never had a lot of friends at all, nor boyfriends for that matter. I mean really who wanted to be seen with me, boy wise. On the inside I was like , why why me, what have I done to these people to deserve this. I was and still am a really nice person, very easy to get along with etc. Very loyal to the few friends I do have. I always thought of others still do, even though this was going on. I prayed all the time that my girls never had to endure this kind of pain in school, that they got to enjoy those school years and have lots of friends, and they did..
But it is still in the back of my mind to this day. How people can live with themselves doing this to a child, teenager etc. I would love once to just know why a person does that, what kind of satisfaction did they all get out of making fun of me? Now as they are all adults and have kids of their own how they would feel knowing the effects this has on kids, what would they do now? I know when my daughter post this these people I went to school with will see this as some are on my facebook, and I am OK with that because they need to know, and it will either humble them or it won’t bother them at all, either way I felt I needed to tell my story.

Bullying can cause a world full of hurt. Don’t be that person who bullies someone – it gets you no where and deeply scars a person.
