Beauty & The Boys // Young Living Essential Oil: Peace & Calming

I absolutely love Peace & Calming. When I was pregnant, I started having HORRIBLE restless leg syndrome. It was so bad and nothing worked. My husband felt so sorry for me because I couldn’t fall asleep and I was exhausted. He would massage my legs for me to try and get them to relax. It was truly just a hard time. When I heard that a couple oils helped with RLS, I immediately ordered some samples and applied them like I was suppose to and I wound up being able to fall asleep with no problem. I knew right then and there that I wanted young living essential oils in my life. I now diffuse Peace & Calming before bed in our room and I put it on my feet when I can’t sleep. {I have insomnia} I don’t ever want to run out of it!

If you are ready to start your essential oil journey? You can sign up under me and I will help you in anyway I can!

Fashion Friday

Shirt dress + Leggings = Christmas gifts // Boots – Walmart

It has been wayyyyy too long since I have done a fashion post and now that I’ve lost the baby weight, I’m ready to dive back in. I don’t get dressed every single day, but I want to document the days that I do actually make time to do so, especially since my husband has been loving the days I make myself look decent and I’m not walking around looking like something out of the walking dead. ;) I need to get a new battery for my camera remote that way I can get away from taking pictures in the bathroom again!

An update on Jax

An update on Jax

I have been horrible about updating the blog with regular life updates. If you follow me on Instagram then you know Jax finally came home the day after Christmas. It may have been hard getting through Christmas eve and Christmas Day without him at home with his brothers, but we were over the moon, after seven long weeks of them being in nicu, we had finally got our wish. Our family was finally complete at home and Jax & Kade were finally together again. The boys were so happy to have both their baby brothers home and we loved ringing in the new year with our babies at home, where they belong.

An update on Jax

Unfortunately, Hubby had been sick since Christmas morning. We aren’t even sure who he managed to get sick from, but he was sick nonetheless. We had really hoped that the twins wouldn’t catch whatever Hubby had as long as he washed his hands and didn’t kiss their faces. It really was wishful thinking, we knew the odds of them not getting sick were pretty slim and sure enough the day before New Years, I noticed they had stuffy noses. New Years Day, their little noses sounded worse and they some boogers, they weren’t running fever, and they didn’t have a cough so I had hoped that was all they would get from it. Things took a turn for the worse when I woke up on the 2nd to Jax dropping his heart rate. He came home on an apnea monitor and he had been having very small dips & quickly recovering them and never more than two small/quick ones a day, if that. I had even mentioned to my husband on Thursday evening that Jax’s monitor hadn’t gone off at all that day. Well, Friday morning when I woke up to his monitor going off, it didn’t alarm me at first. He brought it back up quickly. He then began to have more of them. I still didn’t panic, I assumed it was because he was sick and stuffy. Around 11am, is when it started getting worse. He began having actual apnea, I was having to stimulate him a little bit to get his heart rate back up, and then he began dropping his oxygen. The alarm starting sounding way too much. I messaged one of the nurses who took care of him during his time in nicu and told her what he was doing, but I knew regardless of what she said, I was taking him in because I was beginning to panic.

She messaged me back and told me to take him to the ER and by that time, I was already loading him in the car. I called my mother who lives on the way to the hospital and asked her to come with me because I didn’t feel comfortable with him being in the backseat alone incase he started dropping his stats again. I picked her up and we headed to the hospital. He had only done it for a brief moment on the way to my moms and hadn’t done it again on the rest of the way to the hospital. We checked in and it was then I noticed the seven or eight other people in the waiting room and with it being flu season, I was so not okay with them not immediately putting him back in a room, especially when they knew he was a preemie. He hadn’t dropped his stats once while we were there and so I began to wonder if I overreacted and being around so many sick people was making me nervous so we took the elevators up to the NICU floor to talk to the RN who knew Jax’s history.

I told her what he had been doing at home and in this time my mom and I had both put our ear up to Jax’s back & chest to see if we could hear anything in his lungs and we couldn’t. The RN agreed with us, that it was more than likely just his nose being stuffy that was making it hard for him to breathe, but she did recommend we get him checked out. I was convinced though, that it was just because of his nose, and she gave me some tips on how to clear it up. I thanked her and we headed back down on the elevator. Well, it stopped on the third floor and as soon as it stopped, his stats starting dropping. We stepped off the elevator and I began stimulating him to bring his stats back up. He did, but it wasn’t even a minute later that they dropped again and even though we managed to get them back up, he went limp. Thankfully, the lady who had pushed the elevator button on the third floor, the reason the elevator stopped on the third floor at all, was the head RN in the ER. She rushed us through doors and into a room once we got back down to the ER.

 photo AnupdateonJax3_zps77055f0b.png

The team flew into action. They began monitoring his body temp, his oxygen, and his heart rate. He was too cold and they stripped him down, turned the heat on on the bed, and the nurses and I kept having to stimulate him because he just kept dropping his stats and dropping them. They called the hospital downtown and he was going to be transferred by ambulance. Since he couldn’t keep his stats up on his own, they put him on oxygen, and he immediately looked better. His color came back and he even started crying and trying to rip the oxygen out of his nose. It was when I heard him cry that I let myself break because I was trying to stay calm & strong for him. When I heard his angry little cry, my own tears started forming. They transferred him downtown where he was on oxygen for quite a few days. He had a virus, but they didn’t know what. Once he was finally off oxygen, they began running test after test on him to make sure everything was normal and he was continuing to have little dips in heart rate and they wanted to make sure it was just because he was a preemie and not something more serious.

 photo AnupdateonJax1_zps8ba771f4.png

Those 13 days that he was back in the hospital were hard on all of us. The boys were upset, they had only had one week with Jax before he was back in the hospital. Kade was even upset, he just wasn’t himself until Jax came back home. My husband and I were beyond upset. Those days were a whirlwind of tears, frustration, anger, sickness {I wound up catching something and spent two days throwing up}, and brokenness. I can’t thank eveyone enough who prayed for him, thought about him, and checked on him. We are all so glad he is healthy and back home again!

Calling all prayer warriors #pinkninjasunite #addiestrong

I had a different post planned for today, but if there is one thing I’ve learned, it’s that life never goes quite according to plan. Unfortunately my sweet friend Stephanie knows that all too well, too. I “met” Stephanie through blogging a long time ago, I really don’t remember how, but we followed each other and exchanged a few comments here and there, scrolled through and liked each other’s instagram posts as most people do in blogging without really “knowing” someone, but it wasn’t until we wound up in the same blogging group on Facebook, that I really got to know Stephanie and that was when we became friends. We were even pregnant at the same time for a little bit. I had grown to adore Stephanie, she has one of the best personalities, a beautiful smile, and she is funny. She also has one of the best blogs. Even though we had started to become friends and more than just blogging acquaintances, tt wasn’t until we both became nicu moms though, that we became even closer. She had her daughter, sweet little Addie before I had the twins and I’ve followed their nicu journey from the start. One thing I came to realize about Stephanie, is that she is so incredibly strong. I looked up to her so much while the twins were in nicu and even though we were both busy with our barbies, we still made time to text each other to see how the other one was and to check in on each others babies. I would feel like my world was crumbling, that the pain was never going to get easier, and that they were never going to come home. Stephanie reminded me that the pain doesn’t get easier, we just learn to deal with it better. She reminded me that I could do this because I would look at her and Addie, who had been in nicu longer than the twins, and they were going strong. Stephanie inspired me during that time more than I think I ever let her know.

I remember the day Kade came home. I was over the moon and so excited to tell her about it. I knew Addie didn’t have much longer in the hospital and I figured her and Jax would be coming home about the same time. I was excited to tell her because I knew she would understand the happiness I felt because she knew what it was like to have a baby in nicu and I knew she would be happy for me and she was. She was so happy for me, but I remember how fast the smile on my face faded and how quick the tears slipped from my eyes as she told me Addie had to stay even longer. Regardless, Stephanie stayed strong, even with everything going on, she remained strong. When Jax finally came home and then wound up back in the hospital a week later, even with all of her worries with her daughter, she prayed for him, and I knew she was there if I needed her.

10906152_868215566553432_4501767717834442751_n

Addie was supposed to be going home again soon. They were just waiting for some health insurance stuff to be finalized and I was so happy for her. I kept reading her status updates waiting for the day that she would post a picture of Addie in the carseat, ready to go. Last night though, I got on facebook, and was met with a teary eyed momma and her baby and a status update that read:

“I won’t lie. Today has been hard. Harder than almost any day we’ve had with Addie. The past few days we’ve known some things about Addie’s MRI but needed more info. Several things: 1) Addie has a subdural hematoma meaning there is a bleed outside her brain. It isn’t bleeding anymore, but the fluid is still there. 2) Addie has hydrocephalus meaning the ventricles in her brain have more fluid than they should 3) she has some scarring on a portion of the white matter of her brain. Tomorrow we will have a care conference (our 3rd) to determine how we will proceed in regards to surgeries. She still needs her balloon cath procedure so that is also of concern. Needless to say, conversations about taking Addie home changed to possibilities of Addie staying in the hospital indefinitely. Mathew took off and we have been crying, praying, crying some more, and praying some more. All I could do today was hold my sweet girl, tell her that God is with us and is here for us, and memorize every single feature of her face. It’s been a terrible day and I’m not sure what the future holds for us. Please continue to pray with us, wear your ‪#‎pinkninja‬ shirts tomorrow, and keep encouraging us. Each message of prayer and encouragement give us so much strength to keep on and we need yall right now. I’ll be updating everyone tomorrow when I can.”

I sunk to the floor right where I was and cried for her and I prayed harder than I ever have. I feel like we have all gotten to know Addie as Stephanie has shared her story with us and I’ve gotten close with her. I know most people don’t understand how a real friendship can be formed with someone they have never met, but it can. Just like the heartache I feel for Stephanie is very real. I’m asking you all, to please pray for Stephanie and her husband, they need the strength to get through this hard time and please pray for Addie, she needs God’s healing hands.

You can keep up with updates about Addie on Stephanie’s Blog, Facebook, or Instagram.

New blog name & a giveaway

Beauty & The Boys Blog

Beauty & The Boys Blog Header

Hey y’all! It’s Cassie from Live.Laugh.L0ve. blog. Welcome to my NEW blog!! I am so excited for today’s launch. I worked so hard on transferring from blogger to wordpress, creating the design, fixing things that needed to be fix, and figuring out how to handle the whole wordpress thing. So far, I’m already happy that I switched. If you happened to stumble across my blog or found your way here from the giveaway, I am not new to the blogging world. I’ve been blogging for almost 4 years over at my old blog, Live.Laugh.L0ve. After having 4 boys, I decided my blog needed a change because it just didn’t really “fit” what I was trying to convey. Beauty & The Boys came to me one night right before I was falling asleep and I instantly fell in love with it. It fits so perfectly, especially since I’m the only girl in a house full of boys and I think it conveys the type of posts you will find here! To my old readers who found your way here, make sure you are following me on my new links, I’ll share them below!

I thought it would be fun to kick off the launch and design with a fun giveaway! Use the rafflecopter below! Good luck & thanks for stopping by, I hope you stick around because I have some great posts in the works!

A Warm Family Meal With Marie Callender’s pot pie

Live.Laugh.L0ve. // A Warm Family Meal With Marie Callender's pot pie #WarmthInACrust #ad #cbias

One thing I have always loved doing is cooking with my boys. They always say the kitchen is the home of the heart and I like to believe that’s true. I love the conversations and laughter we share around the kitchen table over a delicious meal and I absolutely love how excited the boys get when I tell them they get to help me cook. I have such awesome little helpers in the kitchen so, last week when it was super cold out, I knew it was the perfect time to do a little family cooking and warm our souls with a warm meal and laughter. I ran to Walmart and we grabbed the things we needed to enjoy Marie Callender’s pot pie and our favorite chili recipe!

Live.Laugh.L0ve. // A Warm Family Meal With Marie Callender's pot pie #WarmthInACrust #ad #cbias

You will need:
- Marie Callender’s pot pie {I got the family size chicken one}
- 2 pounds of hamburger meat {If you are wanting to make a smaller serving of chili, cut this recipe in half. We like making a lot at once to have plenty of leftovers!}
- 1 large can and 1 regular size can {15oz} of ranch style beans with sweet onions
- 1 can of Chili style diced tomatoes
- 1 can of Tomato paste
- Saltine Crackers
- Butter

Live.Laugh.L0ve. // A Warm Family Meal With Marie Callender's pot pie #WarmthInACrust #ad #cbias

After I got back, I asked the boys if they wanted to help me make the chili to go with dinner and they immediately shouted “yes!” The family size pot pie we got took a little over an hour to make so I popped that in the oven to let it cook for awhile before we started on the chili. When there was about 30 minutes left on the pot pie, I started browning two pounds of hamburger meat. Once the meat was done, the boys grabbed their chair, pushed it up to the stove, and patiently waited while I opened up all of the cans! After you have all the cans open, pour the hamburger meat into the pot.

After you and/or your little ones have done that, fill each can about 3/4 with water, and pour all of that water from each can into the pot as well! Bring to a boil and let boil for two minutes. Reduce heat and simmer for at least 10 minutes, stirring frequently!

Your delicious pot pie should be ready about the same time the chili is! Let the pot pie cool, butter some crackers {to dip into the chili because, its SO yummy that way}, scoop your chili into bowls, and sit down to get your bellies full and warm!

This is seriously an easy dinner and one the whole family can enjoy when it’s cold outside!

What is your favorite warm meal during these cold months?

Head over to Marie Callender’s facebook page to keep up with their delicious food and find more great recipes at Pot Pie Please!

Young Living Essential Oil: Thieves

Live.Laugh.L0ve. // Young Living Essential Oil: Thieves

Continuing with my young living essential oil journey. This week I am introducing you to my absolute favorite oil. Thieves. The smell of Thieves is amazing and I love diffusing it. Not only because it smells good, but because it is also excellent for helping prevent sickness. So, having little kids in the house, I diffuse thieves at least once a day to try and keep the germs away. I also have put it on the bottom of the boy’s feet when they are coughing and it has worked like a charm to clear the cough up completely or not make it as severe. I also try to remember to put it on Jay daily since he is in school and I don’t want him getting sick.

Live.Laugh.L0ve. // Young Living Essential Oil: Thieves

A few other things Thieves can be used for:

Coughing
Fever
Nausea
Hand foot and mouth disease
Ear Infections
Respiratory infections
Ringworm
and more!

Thieves is seriously just amazing to have on hand at all times, it’s one I NEVER want to run out of.

If you would like to order your own young living essential oils, you can do so through my link! :)
