I feel like I totally failed at Christmas this year for my kids. With the twins in the NICU, I had still wanted everything to be normal at home for Jay and Kage. I made sure to put decorations up inside the house right after Thanksgiving. I made sure to bring Elfie out this year, even though I didn’t want to add one more thing to do with everything going on. I failed at moving Elfie more often than not from pure exhaustion and forgetting, but thankfully my husband started taking over moving him. I made sure to watch a few Christmas movies with the boys. We didn’t get our letters wrote to Santa this year. We didn’t put lights up outside. We threw our old tree away last year and had planned on getting a real tree this year, but things happened and getting a real tree didn’t happen. Hubby wound up picking up a small tree almost two weeks before Christmas, but guess what, the boys didn’t even care that it was a small tree, they loved it in fact because they could easily decorate the whole thing and Jay had no problem putting the star on the top. {Our Christmas last year} We didn’t go Christmas shopping until last minute, but I did make sure gifts were wrapped and under the tree Christmas eve day. I didn’t hang their stockings until Christmas eve and I totally dropped the ball on getting Jax and Kade their first stockings. I spent part of Christmas at the hospital visiting Jax. We didn’t bake a cake for Jesus on Christmas like we’ve done every year and we didn’t making Christmas cookies. We did laugh, cuddle, play with new toys, and enjoyed having a quiet Christmas day at home instead of going anywhere like we usually do. Things were very different this year vs previous years, it impacted me more than the boys. I noticed they didn’t care about the little things that I did. I noticed they loved the decorations around the house, they loved our little tree, they loved every gift they got, and they were satisfied just being at home with us on Christmas day. They reminded me what Christmas was really about during such a hectic time in our lives. I do know though, that next year will be extra special because we will have our whole family at home next Christmas. :)

DIY Kid Friendly Snowflakes

{This post contains affiliate links}Live.Laugh.L0ve. // DIY Kid Friendly Snowflakes #kidcrafts #kidchristmascrafts #diysnowflakes #christmascrafts

I have always loved Christmas. It has seriously always been my favorite holiday ever. After I started having kids, once they hit the age where they understood what Christmas was, watching their eyes light up in amazement and wonder, and being able to create fun Christmas memories with them, it became ever more wonderful! We love doing crafts in this house and we did our fair share of fun ones last year! With the chaos of life lately, I’m making sure my kids still feel the magic and fun of Christmas. I brought Elfie back this year and we’ve started Christmas crafts again. The boys and I had so much fun making these kid friendly snowflakes, I think we need to make a bunch more to put in random spots around the house!

For these DIY Kid Friendly Snowflakes, you will need:

Popsicle sticks. {$1 store for the win}
– Hot glue gun & glue sticks.
– An assortment of candy.
Glitter.

First, grab four Popsicle sticks and use the hot glue gun to glue them together as shown in the pictures above. I made three, one for each of us. :)

Second, put glue on one part of the stick, sprinkle glitter of choice, and repeat until the snowflake is covered in glitter. Do these for each snowflake. I chose blue glitter, Jay chose green glitter, and Kage chose gold glitter.

Live.Laugh.L0ve. // DIY Kid Friendly Snowflakes #kidcrafts #kidchristmascrafts #diysnowflakes #christmascrafts

Live.Laugh.L0ve. // DIY Kid Friendly Snowflakes #kidcrafts #kidchristmascrafts #diysnowflakes #christmascrafts

Third, let your kids pick out candies to add to their snowflake and glue them on! Don’t forget to pick out some for yourself! ;)

That’s it! Easy peasy! Since the boys each put a candy cane on their snowflakes, they hung them on these little hooks I have on the backdoor and I set mine on the mantel! You could easily glue a candy cane to the back of your snowflake to use as a way to hang it or string or you can prop it up somewhere. This was seriously so easy to do and it made my kids happy and they are so proud of their snowflakes! I have to admit, it was fun for me too! :)

Snippets of our Christmas

These Christmas was one of new traditions. Of firsts. Of tons of laughter and so much family time. I wish I could share all of the pictures I took between Christmas Eve and Christmas day, but there is just way too many. I had to pick and choose which ones I really wanted to share on here and I still feel like it’s a lot. Both of the boys were sick on Christmas but that didn’t hold us back, better yet, our families wouldn’t let that hold us back. :) We had two Christmas celebrations to attend on Christmas eve & two on Christmas day. It was chaotic, beautiful and wonderful. I have never been one to mind the rush and chaos of the Christmas season and even with two little sick ones, we embraced it.

Around our home at Christmas time is fun, festive, relaxing and bright. The last example I want to set for our kids is that Christmas is a time of stress and frustration because it’s not and that’s not how it should be. I believe Christmas time should be about celebrating, enjoying this season and having fun and that’s exactly what we try to make it!

I hope you all have a Merry Christmas Eve!

What is Christmas like in your house?

DIY Advent Calendar

Hey y’all! Before I get into this tutorial, I wanted to let you know that I am getting my injection today for my back. Please say a prayer or send positive thoughts my way that all goes smoothly and that the injection works. I would greatly appreciate it. :)

This is the first year we are doing the advent calender. I have seen it the past couple of years, but for whatever reason I didn’t jump on board, but I knew I had to this year. :) Instead of buying some of the cute ones I have seen, I decided to make ours. A couple of weeks ago I went to Hobby Lobby with my momma - it’s one of our favorite places to shop ;) - they were having a 50% off sale on all of their Christmas items and I found some adorable felt stockings and felt candy canes that I just had to buy. I didn’t know what I was going to do with them at first, but I bought them anyway. Well, a few days ago I was looking around my house trying to decide on what to use for our advent calender and I remembered I bought those and I knew I had to use them for the calender!

DIY Advent Calendar via @clivelaughl0ve

To make this super easy Advent calendar..

you will need:

DIY Advent Calendar via @clivelaughl0ve

DIY Advent Calendar via @clivelaughl0ve

DIY Advent Calendar via @clivelaughl0ve

Felt stockings
Felt candy canes
Sharpies
A pencil
Card stock
Scissors
A pen
An 8×10 picture frame
& something to trace 25 circles, I used a shot glass, it was the perfect size.

DIY Advent Calendar via @clivelaughl0ve

Trace and cut out 25 circles.

DIY Advent Calendar via @clivelaughl0ve

Place the felt stocking on one of the circles. They were already made to stick to something.

DIY Advent Calendar via @clivelaughl0ve

Write the number you are working on, on the circle next to the stocking.

DIY Advent Calendar via @clivelaughl0ve

Continue to alternate between the stockings and the candy canes until you have done all 25. Don’t forget to number them as you go so you know which one you are supposed to be doing next. :)

DIY Advent Calendar via @clivelaughl0ve

I just used glue and made a slanted design on all four sides of the frame and sprinkled silver glitter on the top and bottom and then used red sprinkles on the two sides. I love the way it turned out.

DIY Advent Calendar via @clivelaughl0ve

I didn’t take pictures of this part, I apologize, but it’s still easy I promise! The back of my frame has staple looking holders, I used really thin mint yarn and tied four pieces of the yarn onto the holders on the back. Then I used paperclips to hang them. I just poked a hole in the top of the circle with the paper clip and then hooked it onto the string.

DIY Advent Calendar via @clivelaughl0ve

As you can see, it is only the second piece of Christmas decor on my fireplace so far. I am working on more and can’t wait to share more as I go along. :) You can see how I made the Joy sign here. Here is a few more pictures to show you the prettiness. I love looking at it!

DIY Advent Calendar via @clivelaughl0ve

Oh and before I put the calender on the yarn, I flipped over each one and wrote something on the back of it. Make s’mores. Watch Christmas movies, sing and dance to Christmas music, drink hot chocolate, etc. On a few of them I also wrote candy and that day they will get a candy cane or some other fun Christmas candy. I will placing everything that can be drank, made, or ate in little boxes for them to open on that day. For example, drink hot chocolate – the hot chocolate bags will be in little boxes for them.

What do you think? Do you like it? Have you made an advent calender before or are you thinking about making one this year? If you have made one and blogged about it, I would love for you to leave the link to it in the comments section below!
