Kage’s Spider-Man Birthday Party

{This post contains affiliate links}Kage originally wanted a batman birthday party, I had all these plans to DIY most of it like I’ve done with past birthdays, but I just didn’t have the time to DIY the party with the twins being in the hospital and me being so busy. So, I ran to walmart because I had to get snacks and stuff for the party and I was going to go ahead and pick up decorations. Well, they had zero batman birthday party decorations. I sighed in frustration and called my mom {who was babysitting} and asked her to ask Kage if he would like a spider-man birthday party instead, thankfully, he was okay with that. So, I gathered all the spider-man decor I could and when I started decorating on Saturday, I was pretty pleased with everything. His actual birthday isn’t until Friday, but we had it this weekend since it’s so close to thanksgiving. Kage loved his party decorations and he had a blast at his party! Ready to see all the pictures? Here they are!

Happy 6th birthday Jay

Dear Jay,

Live.Laugh.L0ve. // Happy 6th birthday Jay

You turn six years old today. How do I even begin to describe what you have done to my life these past six years? How do I even begin to describe the absolute joy you bring to my life? You made me a momma. I remember being so scared, I remember thinking that motherhood was going to be impossible. Sometimes it still is, but you make it all the more worth it. I thank God over and over that he blessed me with you. You are such an amazing little boy. You are growing up right before my very eyes and as I write this, I’m fighting back tears. It’s crazy how times flies. I feel like just yesterday I was holding you in my arms for the first time and all of a sudden I blinked and your six.

I want you to know I’m so proud of you, daddy and I both are. You are one of the best students in your class. Your teacher seriously brags about you all the time and it makes my heart swell. You have the sweetest soul I’ve ever seen. You believe in being nice and standing up to those who pick on you and others. You believe in peace above all else. Your love of God amazes me on a daily bases.

Your headstrong too. You and I but heads quite a bit, it’s not surprising and I kinda like it. It shows me that you know what you want and you will stand up for what you think is right or what you believe. You are a little storyteller. I love listening to you tell me whatever story has popped into your head. You have the funniest expressions and your eyes hold all of your emotions. Those beautiful blue/green eyes that holds depths of love. You are a wonderful big brother. You and Kage fight a bit, but at the end of the day, he’s your best friend and you would give anything for him and that is so amazing to see at six years old.

I could say so much more. Like how your laugh fills the room or how when you dance around the living room, energy radiates off of you like the sun. You bring joy wherever you go and it’s beautiful. I want you to always keep the important parts of you. Your selfless at six baffles me and I hope you hold onto it. Your sweetness, your honesty, your faithhold onto it all. More than anything, hold onto the fact that you are beyond loved because love, it fills a person up and Jay, it flows out of you in waves. We love you so much and we are so proud of the wonderful boy you are.

We had your birthday party over the weekend and you had an absolute blast. We had a Disney planes theme birthday party. You were surrounded by friends and family that love you so much and I can’t wait to celebrate your birthday some more today!

I love you Jay, always and forever.

A few birthday pictures

Hey friends. I know it’s Saturday at almost noon, but we are iced in and I have been trying to sit down and write a post since Friday morning with zero luck & I just couldn’t wait any longer. This is mainly just going to be a few pictures I wanted to share from Kage’s birthday party that I have been meaning to share!

His birthday was such a success. He was surrounded by so many people who love him and I’m pretty sure he got things that he hadn’t even hoped to get! :) That easel is awesome and he loves using it as well as the innotab 3s. Jay plays it just as much as Kage!

Angry Birds birthday party decor

Over the weekend, we celebrated Kage turning four. I really can’t believe he is already four! He requested an Angry Birds birthday party this year and I was totally down for that. I knew I didn’t really want to have everything angry birds, but I wanted the colors of the angry birds and of course a couple of things that showed it was angry birds themed. I’m breaking this post into two. I wanted to share the decor today and the rest of the pictures from his party tomorrow. Here is Kage’s angry birds party decor.

For the red and blue back drop cut a piece of string to the desired length, cut equal pieces of red and blue streamer to desired length and hot glue said pieces to the string. Yes, it was seriously that easy. ;) For the goody bags, I created goody cups instead. I got the cups from Walmart for $.89 a piece and they were the perfect touch for the angry birds party. I filled them with small little toys that I found from the dollar tree and then I created little candy bags to put in each cup along with the small toys.

The jars of candy you see on the table were made from Christmas jars that I picked up from the dollar tree. I simply wrapped the streamer around the jar several times to cover up the red and blue Christmas decor on the jars. I secured the streamer with tape & then filled the jars with matching candy. Green had green candy, red had red candy, etc.

I knew we were going to put presents on the fireplace so, I knew I needed to add a little decor to it. I hung 3 little twirly things from the fireplace and tied string onto balloons and taped them to the edge of the fireplace and wa-la.

The cake is from Walmart, that’s normally where we get our cakes because they are so cute and taste so good! The balloons you see on the wall are thank you balloons for the kids and each are filled with a piece of candy. Every kid loves balloons and when it’s time to pop them, there is a treat waiting inside. Yes, they got goody cups and a balloon! What can I say, I like to say thank you in a big/fun way!

We found that frame at the dollar tree as well. I didn’t have time to get an actual 8×10 picture printed so, I simply printed it on regular computer paper and wrote in the remaining white space of the paper then stuck it in the frame. I loved the way it turned out!

I can’t even tell you the amount of compliments I got on the decor of this party! It blew me away how many of our friends and family members were saying they loved it and that I did an awesome job! #winning

All of the other decor you see – red & blue plates, red cups, red forks and knives, red & blue napkins and green tablecloth are all from Walmart. The two red tablecloth holders in the back are from the dollar tree. :)

DIY birthday banner + giveaway

Hey y’all! Happy Monday! I hope your weekend was great. Ours was filled with family + lots of relaxing + church, but more on that later. I wanted to show y’all some of the DIYs I did for Jay’s 5th birthday!
One thing I want to say before I get into these DIYs is that I do not believe you have to have a “Pinterest party”. My sweet friend Chelsea wrote an excellent post on why not to have one and I loved it. I don’t believe birthdays should be stressful, if you don’t have the time to do things yourself. There is NOTHING wrong with buying everything or having a small party. Now that I’ve said that here is what I did have time to do.

The birthday banner is going to seem a bit odd, so I’m going to break it down in two ways that I hope is understandable. What I had originally wanted to do for the banner, was make a triangle banner and stencil the letters onto it but, I wound up changing my mind. So, the first triangle banner you will need:
A pencil
Cardboard box{es}
Scissors

After you have cut them out spray paint them, let dry and then stencil your letters onto it. You could punch holes in the corners of the triangles & string them with ribbon. :)
I wound up not doing that because I didn’t have money for the extra paint for the letters. While I was shopping for streamers, balloons & such I came across this Happy Birthday banner for a $1 and a new idea formed. For this you will need:

Scissors
Glue
Cardboard box{es} *I used the triangles I first made*
Birthday Banner

& that is how I made the happy birthday banner that went with his theme. I laid it on the table instead of hanging it because I had a balloon + streamer background that I found on Pinterest.
I’ll be sharing more in the next couple of days, in the mean time – I have teamed up with Lish and some other wonderful ladies for an awesome giveaway!
