Two days I’ll never forget

Our first family vacation wasn’t just our first family vacation, it was also the first vacation Hubby and I have ever taken together. Yeah, eight and a half years and we had never been on vacation. I was beyond excited to be able to go on vacation with him. We didn’t have a lot of time to ourselves and we were totally fine with that, but we made sure to make a little time for ourselves and to enjoy the moments we did have alone. One morning, I had woke up to find Hubby already awake. I got up to pee and take my back medicine and instead of going back to bed, Hubby crawled out of bed too and we headed out onto the balcony. It was about 5:30 in the morning and we curled up on this beach/porch chair that reclined. There were moments where we were just laying there, listening to the waves wash up on the shore since we couldn’t see them yet, we would quietly talk, and kiss at random times. His arms stayed tight around me and as the sun started to make it’s rise over the ocean, we were both in awe. The smell of the ocean washed up to us, the sound of the waves were gentle and calming, the ocean changed from black to different shades of blue, and the sky turned into a masterpiece as the sun rose. It that moment, I believe I fell even more in love with my husband than I already was. Just getting to experience something so beautiful with him, something like that that touches the soul and warms the heart, it was consumed me. In those early morning hours, it was like we were the only two people on earth and we were wrapped in each other and in the beauty coming alive around us.

Another time I’ll forever remember was our last night in South Padre. Hubby’s brother watched the boys for us so we could enjoy a date. We headed to a burger joint we had went to earlier in the week that we enjoyed earlier in the week. We enjoyed our food without rushing and talked about our favorite parts from the trip. Well, we still had about an hour before we had to head back to the boys so we decided to walk along the beach. We walked the little trail down to the beach, slipped our shoes off, and when we looked up, we saw a double rainbow over the ocean. There had been a storm over the ocean and it was moving onto the land. The waves were rolling in and we walked hand in hand as the waves washed over our feet. The double rainbow stayed the entire time and it was an absolutely stunning sight. As we turned around and started walking back the way we came, a warm rain started falling, Hubby and I just stood there, hand in hand, facing the ocean with the waves washing over our feet, our toes sinking in the sand, and the warm rain washing over us. It was a moment I hadn’t anticipated, a moment that was absolutely and utterly perfect.

I was so lucky to have those moments with him. So freaking blessed to have him by my side.

Our first family vacation

Live.Laugh.L0ve. // Our first family vacation

Our first family vacation was more than I could have hoped for. It was literally a dream come true. I already shared 10 of my favorite vacation pictures, but there is more I want to write about and more pictures I want to share. I was a little worried about taking a vacation with two kids who are six and almost five. It was not only our first family vacation, but also our first road trip, to say I did lots of research leading up to it is an understatement. I knew traveling/vacationing with kids wasn’t going to be easy {or so I thought}, but I wanted to be prepared for it. The car ride down there went extremely smooth. We left at about 12:30am on Saturday so, the boys pretty much slept the entire way. I think they woke up long enough to eat a little something when we made a stop to get food in the middle of the night, but they quickly fell back asleep. They didn’t wake up until we were about an hour and a half away from South Padre and even then, I was prepared for if they got bored. I had created little fun bags for them for the road trip there and back. I filled each bag with a coloring book, a fresh pack of crayons, a book, and a little doodle pad. They looked at their books a little bit after they woke up, but they mainly snacked and took in the view.

I had also mentally prepared myself for when we got to the condo. The kids might be bad, whiny, whatever, because we were in a new place. That didn’t happen either. We were there for five whole days and the boys were amazing. We even squeezed in a couple of family naps where we all actually took a nap and that never happens at home. Those five days were busy and yet, relaxing at the same time. We always had something to do, but we could stop doing whatever we were doing and head up to the condo to relax or nap. Those five days were packed to the brim with swimming at the pool, eating at the local restaurants, visiting the beach, swimming in the ocean, and lots of family time. Hubby, the boys, and I had the time of our life. On the last day we hit up a few more of the local shops and did a little shopping. We walked away with a bunch of new shirts for all of us, a dress for me, nicknack’s, key chains, and a couple of toys for the boys. All things that remind us of our vacation.

Before we got to South Padre, the boys had never really swam much in a pool that they couldn’t stand up in. While we were there, we did a lot of swimming in the pools where we were staying. The first day the boys needed help and we showed them how to swim with their life jackets or floaties that way they could move around the pool without us. The next day, they were swimming like little pros. They both caught on so fast and it made swimming at the pool for us and the boys, a lot more fun. They even got brave and would jump to us off the side. The laughter that was constantly piercing the air was music to my ears.

We were there with a lot of Hubby’s family and we even shared a condo room with my brother in law, his girlfriend, and their daughter. The boys had a blast getting to play with their cousin whenever they wanted and it was so nice getting closer with my future sister in law and my brother in law. We all spent lots of time sitting out on the balcony at night, just talking or staying up late playing games. It was an experience I’m glad we got to share.

I think the boys are going to remember their first vacation forever and what I’ve shared is just the beginning of it.

10 of my favorite vacation pictures

Wow! I’m finally back! I would say I’m sorry for my absence, but I’m totally not. We took our first family vacation and it was UH-MAZ-ING! Seriously, I wish I was still there. We’ve been planning this vacation since the beginning of summer and it was well worth the wait. We went to South Padre Island and it blew me away. The only ocean I’ve ever been to was Galveston and it was pretty, but South Padre was absolutely freaking amazing. We did so much and I have so much to share and talk about. It took me quite a few days to recover from vacation {that’s crazy huh lol}, but I blame it on the pregnancy. Before I launch into everything I want to share in upcoming blog posts. I’m going to do a photo dump of a few of my favorite pictures from the trip. I literally took sooooo many, I had a really hard time narrowing it down to 10 pictures to share in this post. Enjoy! I’ll be back Monday with an actual post!
